Neither rain, nor sleet, nor dark of night will stop these beacons of safety from warning ships at sea and guiding them securely to harbor. While they’ve become mainly obsolete, a trip to a nearby historic lighthouse (they’re on major lakes, too!) gives us a chance to glance into the past and reflect on how important these buildings were to the growth of America.
