World Rainforest Day

How important are the rainforests of the world? They help clean the air of CO2 (greenhouse gases), make oxygen, help to stabilize the climate, and positively affect rainfall. They also house thousands of different animals and plants that we know about, and probably many we’ve yet to discover.

According to the World Rainforest Day organization:

  • The Amazon rainforest provides 20% of the oxygen we breathe

  • Rainforests are thought to be the natural habitat of half the world’s flora and fauna

  • Every minute, we lose 40 football fields' worth of rainforest

  • Deforestation releases more CO2 than all the cars in the U.S. and China combined

  • Rainforest plants have provided us with drugs that treat malaria, leukemia, and many other diseases

Do your part to help save the rainforests by eating less meat, planting trees, using less wood and paper products, and donating to nonprofits dedicated to the health of these delicate ecosystems.
