Chocolate Caramel Cracker Candy

Do you like your treats sweet or salty? If your answer is “both,” this is the recipe for you. It takes ingredients you may already have on hand and transforms them into a delicious candy. With its combination of chocolate and nuts, this crunchy treat is perfect for a Halloween party. Plus, when Christmas comes, it’s an easy-to-make gift for friends and neighbors.

Ingredients


1 sleeve of saltines (40+ crackers)

1 c. salted or unsalted butter (2 sticks); do not use margarine

1 c. + 2 tbsp. light brown sugar, firmly packed

1 bag semisweet chocolate chips

½ c. chopped toasted pecans or almonds



Preparation


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. Line cookie sheet with foil and spray with non-stick cooking spray.

  3. Line crackers end to end on sheet, breaking crackers to fit the edges if necessary.

  4. In a saucepan, melt butter on low heat. Once melted, add brown sugar and turn heat to medium. Continue stirring until boiling, then boil for 3 minutes.

  5. Immediately pour over crackers and spread evenly.

  6. Bake for 5 minutes.

  7. Remove pan and pour chocolate chips over top. Place a sheet of foil over pan and let melt for 3 minutes.

  8. Spread melted chocolate over the top evenly. Sprinkle nuts over top.

  9. Cover with foil and freeze for 20 minutes.

  10. Break up into pieces.

  11. Enjoy!
