Your Guide to November

From voting to holiday shopping (and everything in between).

Election Day

Today is the official election day for the next president of the U.S. Have you cast your vote?

Veterans Day

Give thanks to a veteran who fought for our lives, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.

Friday the 13th

Got paraskavedekatriaphobia (fear of Friday the 13th)?

National Adoption Day

Founded to raise awareness of the 120,000+ children in foster care looking for forever homes, this day also celebrates those who have already been adopted.

Thanksgiving

Want to celebrate like the Pilgrims did? Add lobster, venison, mussels, and clams to your menu, but skip the pumpkin pie (they were out of flour and sugar!).

Cyber Monday

We could see more online shopping than ever before! Be sure you shop smart and know how to protect yourself.

In a tough year like 2020, it can be challenging to find things to be thankful for, but the effort is worth it. Here are some ways you can remind yourself of the good things in life.

Appreciate the little things.

Your dog’s excitement when you come home. A reliable car. A good meal. Teach yourself to acknowledge and appreciate even the small joys that occur throughout the day.

Help someone in need.

If you feel you’ve been fortunate in your life thanks to the support of others, pass it on by volunteering at your local food bank, donating books to a children’s hospital, or fetching necessities for neighbors who can’t get out and about right now.

Count your blessings.

Literally. Keep a gratitude journal where you jot down just a phrase or two to remind you of the positive things in your life. Or set aside a few minutes in your day to run through them in your head, or even share them out loud with a friend or family member.

Gratitude isn’t just for Thanksgiving, of course. Experts agree that feeling thankful can increase empathy, improve your health and your relationships, and help you become a happier person. Practice now so you’re ready to find your joy all year long.
