Things You Should Do When Purchasing a Home

Increase your likelihood for approval by following these tips

We all know that getting a mortgage is a major decision, with lots of steps involved. My job is to guide and educate you about things you can do along the way to make the process go more smoothly. Since getting a mortgage requires that you show your creditworthiness and financial stability, here are a few steps you can take to position yourself as a good candidate for a mortgage:

  • Make sure you have ready access to several months (and in some cases, years) of:

  • Pay stubs

  • Bank statements

  • W-2s and/or 1099s

  • Tax returns

  • Keep up on all your credit payments: vehicle, credit cards, utilities, student loans.

  • Stay at your current job, since reliable income is a big part of your qualification.

  • If you receive a large deposit, make sure you can track its source and purpose.

  • Talk to me before you make a large purchase of any kind (car, furniture, etc.). Doing so could impact your loan approval!

There are more documents I'll need from you as we progress and more actions I'll ask you to take (or not to take!), but these tips are a great start to getting you on the road to refinancing your current mortgage or purchasing a new home.
