Aviation Day


Established in 1939 by FDR, National Aviation Day celebrates the achievements that have been made in civil aviation, beginning with the invention of the world’s first successful airplane in 1903 by the Wright brothers.

Did you know?

  • Aviation Day aptly coincides with Orville Wright’s birthday, August 19.

  • The Wright brothers’ first airplane flew for just 12 seconds and covered a distance of 120 feet.

  • Singapore Airlines holds the record for longest flight in the world: 9,534 miles from Singapore to New York.
