Today we celebrate the birth of a fighter, a peacemaker, an intellectual, an activist, a leader, a man.
Martin Luther King Jr. tirelessly worked for the greater good of all people. On this National Day of Service, here's how you can continue his mission:
Volunteer at a shelter or school. Visit a national park (many waive entrance fees on this day). Attend a lecture or workshop. Join a walk for peace. Donate to the needy. Educate yourself about the civil rights movement. Hug a loved one. Listen to an older person. Create something beautiful. Be kind.
For more ways to get involved, visit the Corporation for National and Community Service to search for a volunteer opportunity near you.
Enjoy your day of helping others, and remember that every day of the year can be a day of service.
